Covid – 19 Update From Wednesday 14th October 2020

As you will no doubt aware, from Wednesday 14th October, Sheffield will be moved to Tier Two ( High Risk ) Category under The Government’s Local Covid Alert Levels.

The Club has previously done a lot of work to ensure that we are Covid 19 - Secure as a business, so the changes that are required under The Government’s Tier 2 guidance we are already operating under, so there aren't any changes to the playing of tennis, BUT unfortunately the use of The Tennis Clubhouse will alter.

We are taking the situation seriously and will endeavour to keep improving our Covid -19 procedures to keep members safe at all times.

Tier 2 -  Local Covid Alert Rules:-

“You must not socialise with anybody outside your household or support bubble in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place.

“You must not socialise in a group of more than 6 outside, including in a garden or other space like beaches or parks ( other than where specific exemptions apply in law )

The new additional ruling means that from tomorrow, members and guests won’t be able to be seated together INDOORS, unless seated and only with members of their household or seated on their own, plus being able to remain socially distanced.

Masks or Face Coverings must be worn at all times when entering or passing through The Tennis Clubhouse.

Members may still socialise OUTDOORS in groups of 6 or less, again remaining socially distant.

The Club Café / Bar  will remain OPEN for both a Takeaway service and for drinks consumed while seated outside on the patio, in groups of 6 or less people. The seated service only we are currently running will still apply to outdoor tables.

We realise this will only be practical for a short period of time, due to the weather at this time of year and therefore today, we have been obtaining quotes for an outdoor wooden roofed gazebo to be built and we hope to provide a covered area for members to socialise outside, under a patio heater, as we are aware that for some members, the social aspect of The Club is just as important as playing tennis and we would like to keep providing a comfortable area for members to sit outside if they wish.

Tennis Indoors -

It is our understanding that playing tennis indoors or outdoors is still permitted, as long as it is in a Covid-19 secure venue, which Abbeydale Tennis Club is, so we are allowing continued use for both indoor and outdoor courts as normal.

At The time of this update our Governing Body The LTA hasn’t made comment on the latest update or provided Club’s with any firm guidance, but obviously when we do get any update from them, offering further clarification we will share this with the members immediately.
