Abbeydale Tennis Club UPDATE: Resumption of Outdoor Tennis Activity from 29th March 2020
Yesterday the Government (22 February) published its roadmap for the gradual and staged easing of lockdown restrictions in England, made possible by the pace of the vaccination programme. Restrictions will be eased across all areas of England at the same time.
While we are all extremely disappointed and frustrated at The Tennis Club, that The Government have decided that outdoor tennis can’t return on March 8th, we at least now have firm dates for returning to both Outdoor tennis ( March 29th ) and Indoor tennis 2 weeks later on April 12th.
To bring the dates close for us all, we have decided that we are opening both Court Bookings and Adult Programme Bookings, such as Cardio Tennis almost immediately, allowing members to book courts FOUR weeks in advance. This will mean you can book a court outside ( for Monday 29th March ) in just a few days time from MARCH 1st !!! which will hopefully give us a lift, knowing the return is coming soon. The same goes for The Adult Club Programme and classes for the week commencing 29th March can be booked from Monday Morning March 1st.
To mark our return, we have added a number of new extra classes for members, which can be seen online through ClubSpark.
On The Club’s website ( www.abbeydaletennisclub.com ) we have added a Countdown Clock, so we can monitor the days / hours and minutes to our return ( currently 33 days / 15 hours / 2 minutes ! ) so you can watch the return to tennis any time you like J
Our Governing Body The LTA have released a comprehensive update, which we have copied below and also have issued a simple summary grid for Tennis Club’s and players, which can be found by clicking or copying typing https://www.lta.org.uk/globalassets/news/2021/summary-grid---permitted-tennis-activity.pdf
Government Roadmap for easing of lockdown restrictions
The Announcement confirmed that:
Outdoor tennis courts will be able to open from 29 March. This will mean recreational tennis will be able to resume, including singles and doubles social play, 1:1 coaching and formally organised activity for groups (maximum group size and court ratios subject to confirmation)
- Indoor courts to remain closed until later in the roadmap
- Tennis in schools can resume from 8 March
We have produced a simple summary grid outlining what the Government's publication of the roadmap means for tennis activity from 29 March and setting out the key relevant aspects for tennis in terms of how the roadmap will progress under each step, which can be downloaded via the link below.
This document will be updated as and when we receive confirmation of further detail from Government and Sport England.
We will also republish updated versions of the LTA's full COVID-19 Secure guidelines for tennis players, coaches, official and venues in due course.
