Playing tennis competitively can be a fun way to test your skills on the court.

There are a number of options to get involved in tennis competitions from ladders, matchplay and team events at Abbeydale to tournaments run by the British Tennis.

Sign up to British Tennis Membership and get a rating

Before you can compete in tennis competitions run by British Tennis you will need to sign up for a British Tennis Membership ( BTM ) and be allocated a rating. Only those players with a BTM number can compete in competitions run by British Tennis.

Box leagues

Box leagues provide a great opportunity to compete on a regular basis against players of a similar standard and also meet new people and improve your overall game in a fun, competitive environment.

These competitions mainly offer singles matches, (men, women and mixed), and allow players of all standards to compete against others of a similar ability.

Tournaments

Tournaments and competition are vital to any sport but especially tennis. It’s where players put their training into practice under pressure in the real game. Competitions provide opportunities to play in friendly matches while enjoying the atmosphere generated by your fellow competitors and some spectators.

Fun to play, competition also provides a mean to measure their own player development. Matchplay tournaments at Abbeydale are the first step where players can take part in a friendly social event playing against friends and new partners of a similar age and standard, while gaining confidence competing at a familiar venue, refereed by coaches assistants they already know.

Team Matches

Team matches are a competition for registered places to play centres and clubs. It aims to provide players of all ages (8&U – Open) with regular league matches, against similar standard players in a competitive team environment.

Here at Abbeydale tennis club we regularly enter teams in both the Sheffield and district leagues and nationally.
