🎯 A Powerful New Coaching Partnership

A Powerful New Coaching Partnership We’re also delighted to announce a major new partnership that’s been driven by member engagement, feedback, and our own reflections. From January 1st, 2026, Abbeydale Tennis Club will be joining forces with The Academy - the highly respected coaching team many of you will know from The Hallamshire Tennis Club. The City’s two strongest coaching teams are amalgamating to create an exciting new era for tennis in Sheffield. This partnership will bring fresh energy and opportunity across every area of the Club - from developing new coaching programmes and reinvigorating our teams, to reviving social tennis and Club events that bring members together on and off court. By combining Abbeydale’s experienced Coaching Team with the best of The Academy’s Coaches, we’ll be offering members the most comprehensive and dynamic coaching setup in Yorkshire - designed to help every player, at every level, enjoy and improve their tennis. We’re also delighted to share that The Academy’s Head Professional, David Marray, will be contacting members in the coming weeks to introduce himself and outline his plans for our members in 2026. David, along with his younger brother Jonathan Marray - who famously won the Wimbledon Men’s Doubles title in 2012 - both began their tennis journey right here at Abbeydale in the 1990s, both being coached by John. It’s fantastic to be welcoming David back home to where it all started. It’s a hugely positive step for Abbeydale and one that will help reconnect our community through great coaching, team spirit, and a shared passion for the game.
